mikehoolboom The heirs of John Cage's unplayed piano spectacle of silence 4,33 live in the world of phonography. Soundtracker Gordon Hempton, the iconic Icelandic perfectionist Magnus Bergsson, and now Ivo Vicic. Like all silences, this one is filled with unexpected encounters. Nevermind what a tree sounds like, what a tree hear? A blade of grass, a passing cloud. The mics are waiting high in the spruce trees, soaking in the hardly there and barely registered. Bliss. Favorite track: Wild Boar Coming to Drink.

The place of the recording is a mountain meadow in a huge mountain valley. Tiny, silent, stream is approx. 5 meters away from microphones.
It is a silent Autumn night (without any breeze or wind) covered by the fog.
Huge mountain valleys generate rich natural echo which is added to the sounds.
It is the annual rutting season of the Red Deer. They are roaring on slopes and in the valley. Single Deer come close to the stream to drink and graze. He is roaring close to the microphones. The roar is awesome.
Wild Boar comes to drink then leaves at the very beginning of the recording.
Tawny Owls are screaming and flying around the valley. They socialize and from time to time scare away other birds in sleep.
Edible dormice squeals in tree canopy, close to the microphones or in trees away.
Silent nocturnal ambience recording with microphones placed in spruce trees near the stream - this is a low levels/sounds recording situation (except the close animals activity) and if you gain too much this recording the noise can be noticed.
Phonography recording recorded in the night around midnight, third of October 2023. Recorded in NW Croatia (mountain region). Recorded with SASS (stereo ambient sampling system array) placed high on the spruce tree.
