THE SOUNDS OF CRNA MLAKA
Crna Mlaka, a particular ornithological nature reserve, protected swamp-forest area of international significance according to Ramsar Convention, also a fish-farm and a settlement in the Republic of Croatia, not far from Jastrebarsko. Big fish-ponds and a flood forest, abundance of food and space are an exceptional habitat of numerous animal species: birds, amphibians, mammals, reptiles and fish which live or periodically stay in huge number at Crna Mlaka. That is why it's an exceptional location for studying animals and recording them.
This nature album is conceived as a narrative audio story about Crna Mlaka, an attempt to register atmosphere and aura of the location, the story about Crna Mlaka for a period of one day. The album contains recordings from macro to micro, from small details to big compositions. It's in no way just a sheer listing of particular animal species sounds, although significant number of them has been registered on this record.
Apart from animal noises, there is also a sound of wind in reeds or sound of water, sound of cascade in the background. Certainly, some recordings also include constant background road noise, human civilization, as part of actual audio picture of that area. Nevertheless, I believe that his nature album will take you to Crna Mlaka and that - if only for a short time - you will be able to enjoy the sound story and recordings from this extraordinary nature reserve.
Recorded in Spring, June 2012. on Crna mlaka-Wetland of International Importance (Ramsar Convention), in Croatia.
Crna mlaka is not open to public. You cannot visit or record there without special permission. I hope these recordings have captured an authentic atmosphere of this marvelous wetland so this way you can enjoy the sounds of Crna mlaka.
